The Nortonthorpe Easter Rabbit Hunt

On EASTER SUNDAY 2024 at Nortonthorpe Sports Club, Springfield Avenue, Scissett, an Easter Rabbit Hunt was held

“Is it going to rain?” That was the question.

After a month of “daily” rain the worry about whether it was going to hold off, was growing anxious! Saturday was glorious, so it was fingers crossed and “hope the sun will shine tomorrow!” And thank goodness, the rain did hold off! Whilst it was still a little cloudy Nortonthorpe Sports Club had a super Easter Community Event.

Scissett FC Supporter, Alison Johnson had arranged to bring her two ponies – Tinkerbell and Orla. The field was coned off ready to make sure everything was in place for the ponies to enjoy their day at Nortonthorpe. However panic stations at 7 a.m on Sunday morning! With a phone call from Denby Dale saying “Tinks will not board the Horse box” and so Geoff was walking her from Denby Dale. Thanks Geoff!

As it turned out, at that time of day the roads were relatively quiet – just a long walk to start the day.

“The sun began to shine (just a little) and our wonderful HD8 community began arriving” says Allen Dawson, Chairman of The Nortonthorpe Sports Club. “Thank you to everyone who came along and supported us”.

The Rabbit Hunt had 15 Rabbits hidden in the woodland, all named and numbered. The children completed their entry and return back to base to claim their Easter egg prize.

Some entries could then go and find Carrots to feed and rabbits for a second Easter Egg.

Home-made cakes were ready to be served with Hot chocolate, Coffee and Teas.

There was also a crafting table set up and manned by Mrs Tracy Palk, where the children enjoyed colouring in the Rabbits on Sticks, Easter Masks and wooden hanging Easter decorations.

The Nortonthorpe Sports Club would sincerely like to thank all their supporters, especially their wonderful committee members who always shine and come up trumps!

The Nortonthorpe is open every Saturday, bar opens at ** and is available to host a whole variety of events and activities.

Dog welcome!

Have you visited the Nortonthorpe nature trail? Its a ** meter nature trail that laps round the football field, with benches to sit and take in the view and natural beauty of Scissett.
