Measure the traffic received

Did you know that you can track the amount of traffic you receive from the HD8 Network?

Providing that you use Google Analytics (or similar software) on your website.

Listings on our directory provide information to enable people to get in touch with you.
This includes contact details and links to your social media and website.

The HD8 Network can measure how many views your listing receives. As well as the links that are clicked, the email addresses that have been clicked on to be used, and the downloads that have occurred. Silver or Gold Members receive reports of this activity as part of their membership.

However, did you know that you are also able to measure the activity at your end?

Log into your Google Analytics account; click on Acquisition, All Traffic, Source/Medium.

The traffic from us should show with descriptions like –

HD8network?utm_source=HD8network / Directory_Listing

HD8network / Directory_Listing

During a recent member’s account management meeting we were discussing their membership, helping them to optimise their exposure and the traffic that their listing had generated.

This is copy of the report that the member produced in their Google Analytics, which shows the traffic their website has received from us.

If you would like to find out more about the HD8 Network Membership benefits please visit – www.HD8network.co.uk/Join or get in touch.

Do you know we have a Events Calendar?

I thought I would remind you about our Events Calendar on the website.

It is free for organisations to list their events on our online events calendar.

Ordinarily you would have found lots of interesting things to do … however a small pandemic had us delete all pre-standing events and now it is looking a bit empty and boring.

Currently we only have some business networking events and the sling library socials.

But we know that there is a lot more happening than that!

List your event or activity now for free – https://www.hd8network.co.uk/add-your-event/

You do not need to be a member of the HD8 Network to make use of the calendar.

We say if it is of interest to those who work, rest and play in the HD8 area it is okay to upload your event.

So, you might also find events further afield too.

HD8 Network Events CalendarCome and find different events for you and your family.

Whether you are looking for activities for the kids, a new skill you want to learn or a day out.

Normally there would be groups, events and fairs listed all the time and we want to get back to this.

So please tell everyone about the events calendar, add your events and keep checking back to see what else is going on.

We offer promotional packages for events who want further promotion outside of the events calendar.  If this might be of interest to you, please get in touch.

If you were a member of the HD8 Network, we would remind you to send us content to share on your behalf and offer you the opportunity to work with us to help you find your story

Wow! I didn’t know all that was available!

HD8 Network Wow! I did not know all that was availableDo you know how often we are told this when we finally get a chance to speak to people and explain what we offer?

So many people have a preconception of what it is we do and do you know how hard it is to overcome a preconception?

Most people know us for our networking events and we realise that this is probably entirely our fault, as we need to regularly promote them to make sure that we get the bums on seats … especially now they are happening twice a month!

But I think the association to these type of events is due to us having #Network in our name (Even my daughter calls it HD8 Networking Event – but I think she does it to wind me up).

But a Network is exactly what we are.
We are a platform for communication in the HD8 area of Huddersfield.

Other people think that we are just Facebook Groups and many possibly don’t realise that we manage a range of them. We have recently changed our posting policy in the Facebook Groups, so that now only members of the HD8 Network can promote their business in there … but do you know how much confusion that has caused? LOADS!! Especially, we think because you can be a member of a Facebook Group, as well as a member of the HD8 Network. And we often have people tell us they are a member of the HD8 Network when they are not even subscribed to our mailing list – possibly haven’t even visited our website.

One of the things that nearly everyone thinks that we do – which we definitely don’t – is publish and distribute the magazine through your door #DefinitelyNotUs

What most people don’t realise is that we ALSO have an online events calendar, business directory, share content via our news page on our website and on our social media channels, have a mailing list of engaged subscribes, offer a range of membership packages for businesses to promote themselves, as well as provide account management to help our members get the exposure they desire.

We are also developing packages for the larger businesses in the area, to compliment their CSR and employee benefit policies and we go out of our way to help community groups and charities.

Did you know we did all of this?
What did you think we did?
I would love the opportunity to discuss this further with you.

HD8 Network Social Meetup

We are well known for holding events for businesses Meetups, however our Social Meetup will purely be a social event and have a strict no selling policy.

This event is focused on those who rest and play in the area.

To talk about what we have been up to for leisure and pleasure. Or how homeschooling is going. What walks people have been on. The wonderful sights they have seen in the HD8 area.

Perhaps you might want to talk about the places you have been able to buy things, however this is not a promotional event – by all means let people know if you run a business. But think about this as the pub or church coffee morning – this is purely a social event.

Icebreaker

It is always easier to start a conversation with an ice breaker.

It would be good if you came prepared to the Social Meetup with an ice breaker.  A suggestion from literature is to share 1 very interesting thing, 2 moderately interesting things, 3 very dull things

… or more simply you could have an example of why you love the HD8 postcode area of Huddersfield, and share positive news and stories.

If, however, you fancy joining, but do not wish to participate other than listening, that is okay too.

Format

We have the option of having one big conversation, or splitting into groups. Depending on number of attendees.

We also have the option of holding a speed social (similar to speed dating or speed networking – but we are not looking for proposals for marriage or business!), just to talk to some different people.

Speed Social would allow you to have lots of mini conversations, instead of open discussion in front of everyone at the same time.

Feel free to message us either through Facebook or email if you would like to understand more or express any preferences.

Tickets

Book your ticket here – hd8networksocialmeetup.eventbrite.co.uk

Our first Social Meetup event on Thursday will be free to join

We have created a JustGiving Page for you to be able to donate a contribution. www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/hd8network

Our suggested ticket price is £5-10 but please give what you can.  Your generosity will be much appreciated.

Our aim is to build a community fund which can be used to provide support to local groups and organisations in the area.
Whether it is to help groups go back to normal or provide services in the meantime.

Future Social Meetup events

We would love to host lots of other social Meetups.
Would you like to volunteer to be part of it?

Did you previously run a mother and baby group? We are actively seeking volunteers to tune in and help run Mother With babies session.  These are aimed at mums getting together and not the activity of the child.

We have also considered Parents with homeschooling chat.

Perhaps a book clubs, or movie review night.

Would you like to volunteer to be part of it?

You can be demonstrating or passionately talking about your business which can help promote it.

We are hatching a plan for a HD8 Network Show and Tell, where we are inviting people to provide content for our event …. If you are an entertainer, dancer or gym instructor, or a Painter, Builder or Plumber giving DIY tips, or reading poetry or stories, exhibiting a photo collection … what would you like to watch or maybe offer?

You can be promoting a business (but don’t be too salesy, as no one likes being sold too) or just passionate about what you do.

Never used Zoom before?

Get in touch before the meeting and we can do a practise run and talk you through it.

Virtual Meetups now free for Silver Members

It is an unprecedented world at the moment and because of this, we are having to be ever evolving.  We are trying to adapt so that we can continue to support the local area.  One of the ways that we have been doing this, is by transferring our business networking events to Virtual Meetups – which are now FREE for Silver members, as well as Gold members.

Our virtual Meetups give local businesses the opportunity to introduce their products and services.  However we have also found the Meetups are having a positive impact on attendees social life as well as mental health.

Virtual Meetups on Zoom are free for Silver MembersThe Meetup sessions are held on Zoom on Thursday mornings starting at 10am

We had initially agreed to hold the events fortnightly – more regularly than our normal monthly events.  However, it was not as easy to set this up on Eventbrite (how we process the ticket purchasing).  So we have decided to hold these weekly.

Once a month these events will be supported by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), whereby their members can attend our virtual Meetups for free.

These Virtual Meetups will cost

  • £10 to non members,

  • £5 for Bronze members and FSB members (if it is not the ‘Supported by FSB’ Meetup),

  • Free for Silver and Gold Members.

At our Virtual Meetup on Thursday 16th April, we were able to replicate our unique Speed Networking format, as seen at our physical Meetups over the past 7 years.  All agreed that they liked the format and it had been productive for them.

Survey results showed that attendees thought these events were –

  • useful for their business, enjoyable and that they will attend further ones.

  • also beneficial to attendees social life and mental health.

If you would like to join us for one of our Meetups please visit our Eventbrite profile to book your ticket – HD8network.Eventbrite.co.uk

However if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us (during reasonable hours) on 07790705223.

If you would like to find out more about our membership packages and to sign up please visit – www.HD8network.co.uk/join

Membership could be part of your CSR policy

Have you considered that membership of the HD8 Network could be as part of your CSR policy and your way of supporting the local community?

Are you a big business in the #HD8 area of Huddersfield?

For many businesses, the HD8 Network provides them a way to promote their services and products locally.

Many people know us for our networking events, others know about our social media groups and channels, however there is much more that we offer.

Whilst big businesses in the area might think that the HD8 Network and our membership is irrelevant to them – as their customers are not here – their other key stakeholders are; for example their employees, their neighbours, their councillors and other authorities making decisions which affect their business, all of whom are part of the surrounding communities.

The HD8 Network membership, used as part of your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, would enable you to communicate effectively with these other groups that impact on your business.

By becoming a member and paying the membership fees, you enable us to run our website and free online events calendar, as well as manage our social media communities.

We have many hopes and dreams for the HD8 Network and taking large profits is not one of them (despite my husbands frustrations).

Everything we have so far earnt (and more) has been reinvested into building the ‘business’ and we have no intentions of stopping there!

Clayton West Baby and Toddler Group

In the past we have

  • given discounted membership to charities and non-profit organisations, enabling them to come to our meetings and promote their messages.
  • sponsored a toddler group’s sign – by paying for and organising a vinyl banner to be printed, which let more people know where they met.
  • communicated a local rugby club’s campaign  for sponsors and trustees to enable them to acquire their desired new changing rooms.
  • provided space for a local newsletter to be accessible online.
  • annually supported a internationally recognised music festival that happens locally.

This is just a few examples of how we have helped the locally community. And we want to do more and to help more.

If you would be interested in learning how your membership could help the local area please get in touch.

Help businesses in Kirklees apply for Government coronavirus grants

The Government has announced details of a package of financial support for businesses and the self-employed to help mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 virus.

This week Kirklees Council has written to all businesses in Kirklees who are eligible for either the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant or Small Business Grant to let them know that they need to complete an online form on the Council website in order to ensure payment as swiftly and securely as possible at the beginning of April. Further information and the online form is available here: www.kirklees.gov.uk/coronavirusbusiness

However, we are aware that, due to the current situation, many business owners are not at their business premises and therefore may not see this letter immediately.  We would therefore be grateful if you could share this message via your own local networks to help us reach business owners across Kirklees. Business owners can also contact the Council business rates team if they have any questions about the grants or their application at business.rates@kirklees.gov.uk.

Online Business Directories

Getting exposure online for your business is more vital than ever and one of the most effective ways available remains to be business directories.

HD8 Network Directory Listing

The information age has given you numerous ways to reach your customers that literally did not exist a decade ago, and the online directory listing is one of them.

A company directory listing is a method that stands the test of time and has evolved with the technology around us.  However now instead of listing your business in the big and bulky hard copies of the Yellow Pages or the ‘local’ magazines delivered through your door, the online directory listing is what you should be taking advantage of, whether you are a large or small, B2B or B2C business.

Putting the required information at the fingertips of the now internet savvy customer.

So first off, what is an online directory listing?

This is a record, on a website, which provides your company information. Normally this information would include contact details, generally have links to your own website or social media, and sometimes include descriptions.

Different directories have varying offerings; at the HD8 Network we offer 2 types of directory listings – Basic and Enhanced.

HD8 Network Business directory listing - basic entry - Gemma Favager - Travel CounsellorsBoth of our types of listings include company name, contact details, an image, a brief description and links to website and social media.

Whereas our enhanced listing has space for more description and images, has a larger more visual presence at the top half of the directory page on the website and has more chance of appearing on other pages throughout the website – including individual village pages (for example Denby Dale – click here to see an example)

So, why should you use Online Directories?

Online directories provide you with backlinks to your own website, they are extremely cost and time effective ways to increase your visibility, exposure and discoverability and can improve reputation as well as facilitate reviews and recommendations. But it is imperative that you keep the information there present and up to date!

Backlinks

One of the most important features that online directories, like the HD8 Network, offers you is high-quality backlinks to your website.

HD8 Network Business directory listing - Designed by TreeBacklinks are links that take people to your website.

Backlinks from reputable online directories improve your SEO, because online directory listings generally have a high domain authority.

In simple terms;  high-ranking websites + links to your company website = great for SEO.

On top of general links to your website, the HD8 Network also offer you the ability to add a Call to Action button, which you can update.  This is aimed to direct website visitors to a particular place which is bespoke to you.  Here are some of the examples used on the HD8 Network directory listings

The time, effort, and money involved (which is generally minimal) to gain such valuable backlinks will help you to reap the SEO benefits of links from reputable and high-ranking websites.

Quick and Cost Effective

HD8 Network Business Directory Sign up formThis leads us on to our next point. The process of uploading your details to an online directory is generally a very quick and easy way of gaining exposure for your business – especially when creating a listing on the HD8 Network website.

When you initially create your listing on the HD8 Network, we only ask the very basic information, giving you the option to send on descriptions and images if you want to enhance your exposure.

Within a short time (could be a matter of hours or even minutes if I’m able to juggle the current home-schooling/working from home situation) your listing will be live and available for people to find you.

Visibility

Get a free business listing on the HD8 NetworkMany buyers prefer to use online directories because the information is usually more objective and concise than marketing copy.

They also use this method as it increases the chances of finding companies relevant to their needs. The HD8 Network assists the searcher to find products and services in and around the HD8 area and supports the ethos of local.

Boosting your visibility online will increase the likelihood that you will get found and your (potential) customers will be able to find your company details, resulting in more business for you!

Improved Reputation

Your business reputation will also be strengthened by using online directory listings.

Directory Listings can also be seen as a seal of approval and a trusted source of information – the HD8 Network try to carry out credibility checks on the businesses who take up membership – and by having a listing on there, it tells potential onlookers that you are also trustworthy, and your business is a high quality one.

Reviews and Recommendations

Social media buttonsThe HD8 Network also provides a plethora of social media platforms, which enables your customers to review and recommend your business, which is an important part of improving your reputation and trustworthiness.

Allowing people to review your company online shows that you value their opinion and you are interested in what your audience think, helping you to build and maintain a positive brand image.

It also helps to show that you are not a fraudulent firm and you are serious about what you do.

Having your business listed on a directory, can also help people to share your details with others online.

Up to date and current

However, a word of warning! It is vital for you to make sure you keep your details present and correct on the listings. We would urge you to keep a record of all the places that you appear and have a directory listing.

It is important to make changes to all the listings that you have when you have a change of circumstance. These could include and are not exclusive to – phone numbers, URLs, and addresses.

This seems so obvious, but there is nothing more frustrating for searchers to find out of date information. It is also not just a waste of time (and money) for you as it just defeats the point but can also actually be detrimental to your business!

In conclusion there are so many benefits for using online business directories for both SMEs and large enterprises alike.

An online business directory like the HD8 Network is absolutely an opportunity that you should be taking advantage of, especially as there are so many other costly and time-consuming methods of marketing available in business today.
They are a cost-effective, time-effective method to increase the reach of your business and a great way to improve your overall brand trustworthiness as well as strengthen your reputation.

Increase the visibility of your business, building backlinks and improved reputation by signing up to become a member of the HD8 Network.

In light of the difficulties that the Coronavirus is creating for local businesses, the HD8 Network would like to offer you FREE Bronze membership (or discount against Silver or Gold membership).

To take advantage of this please use ‘CORONA’ on the sign up page.

Go to www.HD8Network.co.uk/join/ , select the package for you and then click “sign up now”.

Listings will be published as soon as possible (with allowances for homeschooling)

Stay safe people and let me know if you would like to discuss the options

Photoshoot with John Steel Photography

Earlier this month the HD8 Network organised a photoshoot with the amazing John Steel Photography, inviting members and other organisations that are involved with the HD8 Network or who ‘Work’ in the HD8 area to come along and have their picture taken.

We used John Steel Photography in 2015 when we built our website, however recently, when designing a pop-up banner for the She Means Business Instagram Workshop that we hosted in June – delivered by Social Progress – we noticed that some of the images were out of date; One business has recently retired and closed their company, another has relocated to Sheffield and others had pursued different avenues in their careers.

So we realised that we needed new images that were representative of the people who currently Work, Rest or Play in the area.

To provide continuity from the previous photoshoot and existing catalogue of images, we asked our ‘models’ to bring props that illustrated their business.  For some this was incredibly easy – for example the Roofer and the Marquee Hire Company – however the services, particularly the online services, were much harder and required much more creative, out of the box thinking, but we got there.  Can you can guess correctly what they do …?

HD8 Network Photoshoot 2019 John Steel PhotographyWe also asked our models to bring their amazing smiles and told them this was a fun shoot, with lots of energy and not your typical ‘professional’ corporate headshot.

The morning was VERY busy, with some people just being able to pop in, squeezing it into their busy working day and others staying for longer and using the time to network and build relationships with the other people that came along.  Jo Cove from ‘Made in Clayton West‘, a local community organisation, said the atmosphere was buzzing and that there was a great bunch of people.

Member and regular attendee of our monthly Meetup networking events, Paul Campbell from the Effective Group, was kind enough to let us the use their new offices at Westleigh House in Denby Dale for our studio.  This was the perfect venue and we thank them enormously.

We are very grateful to everyone involved who came along and made the day super special and more importantly for creating such fantastic images.

However, of course we give all our thanks to the very talented John Steel, who used his own unique personality and banter to get the best out of the models and produce the most amazing photos.  Thank you.

We will be using these photos in our future promotions and literature, so keep a look out for this.  We had so much fun organising and arranging the day, and have a long list of people that would have loved to have been involved but weren’t able to, that we would like to do another soon.

The people and businesses featured, in no particular order, include –

If you would like to feature in these photos or even arrange for a photoshoot at your own premises then please do not hesitate to get in touch.

#SheMeansBusiness Instagram Workshop

She Means Business Instagram training workshopThe HD8 Network were very honoured last month to host the #SheMeansBusiness Instagram training workshop, delivered by the amazing Esther Orridge from Social Progress.

SheMeansBusiness June 2019Local businesses, specifically startups and those adopting social media for the first time for business use were invited to attend and be shown the powers of Instagram and how it could be used for business purposes.

Esther delivered the presentation with her bubbly personality and extensive expertise and knowledge, and all the attendees agreed that it had been a very informative and useful event.

We were certainly inspired and found ourselves with renewed enthusiasm for this promotional publishing tool, prompting several images to be shared in the following days.  We hope to build on this and adopt it as a tool to engage with and find followers, furthering our communication channels.

The key takeaway point for us was that businesses should have a business profile as opposed to an individual account – which is very easy to do.

The training workshop was held at The Venue in Storthes Hall Park – where we hold our monthly Meetup networking events – and everyone agreed that it is the perfect venue for this and many other types of events – it’s even a great place to go for a coffee, something to eat or maybe something a bit stronger with family and friends.  Storthes Hall feels like a hidden gem, as if you are in the middle of nowhere, although you are no more than 15 minutes from Huddersfield Town Centre or the M1 (depending which way you drive).

Stay in touch with our activities by coming back regularly to our website, check out our social media channels and subscribe to our mailing list (using the form at the bottom of most pages on the website).

6th Anniversary Meetup

This year we are celebrating 6 years of the HD8 Network.

Conceived and brought to life in the spring-summer 2013.

One of the first things we did was create a social media community and the response was they wanted to meet up.  So we created our Meetups.

Following this we brought you the website, business shows and membership packages and what we have been consistent with is our social communities and our physical meetups.

Earlier this year Jacqui Gedman – Chief Executive of Kirklees Council – kindly offered to be our speaker at one of our Meetups.

We jumped at the chance and thought it would be ideal to do this on our 6th Anniversary of HD8 Network Meetups this year in July.

Jacqui will be discussing “How the Council supports businesses”

Tickets will be on sale as usual.  Whilst we intend on holding our Speed Networking sessions this will depend on the number of attendees.  We also want to acknowledge and celebrate this 6 year milestone and so will try to measure the attendee interest and act accordingly.

Book your tickets now on Eventbrite – HD8networkMmmmm-July.Eventbrite.co.uk

Meet our Members

The HD8 Network is more than just our networking events, however ….

The HD8 Network Meetups are really wonderful and you should come along to see for yourself.

We have a laugh, but also have organised time for attendees to speak with at least half the people in the room.

But most of all, we provide a comfortable fun two hours aimed at helping your business in the HD8 area.

Building relationships with other business owners can provide a range of benefits; peer learning, creating accountability, sharpening your business acumen.  It’s not JUST about growing your business contacts – but that’s pretty great fun too.

HD8 Network Meetups

The HD8 Network is more than just our networking events.  (But these are really wonderful and you really should come)

At our Meetups we have a laugh, but also have organised time for attendees to speak with at least half the people in the room in a speed networking style.

As many of the attendees come regularly, this is more of a monthly catch up than elevator pitch, but it is good practise to bring business cards or leaflets with contact details to act as a reminder for people who has met you.  Some people also bring demonstrations or other portfolios, however its about what suits you best.

We generally have a speaker, aimed at educating you on aspects of business, as well as providing heightened exposure to a member’s business, whilst not being a sales pitch.

Building relationships with other business owners brings so many benefits, including peer learning, creating accountability, sharpening your business acumen, as well as growing your business contacts.

You might be looking for services and trades for home or work life, or want to promote your organisation and sell stuff.

We have many charities who come along and can tell you how you can support the organisations that help to provide much needed services to the community and the exposure they can give you in return.

The HD8 Network Meetups has a range of B2B businesses, as well as B2C and MLM in attendance.  The majority of attendees are made up of sole traders or one-man-bands, however we also have employees, as well as business owners attending and our Meetups attract all ranges of businesses at varying times of the year. You just never know who is going to book on (or even turn up) – that’s the ‘fun’ of running and ‘planning’ events.

Will we see you next time?

Most of all the HD8 Network Meetups are a comfortable, fun two hours, aimed at helping your business and the HD8 area of Huddersfield.

Join us for our 6th Anniversary event with Jacqui Gedman from Kirklees Council

Shepley Spring Festival 2019

Wow what a great atmosphere and music there is at Shepley Spring Festival …. and great memories too!

Shepley Spring Festival 2019 Storthes Hall HD8 Network

New Venue Storthes Hall

The Venue and Aparthotel at Storthes Hall Park worked really well for the Shepley Spring Festival this year, especially as the weather was at the point of only threatening unpleasant weather…

The wide range of rooms in the Venue provided a variety of spaces and proves that there is future potential for a long and happy relationship between Shepley Spring Festival and Storthes Hall.  Especially if other parts of the grounds were available to expand into.

If you would like to get in touch with the Venue at Storthes Hall, please find details on our directory listing here.

Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust Festival Shop at Shepley 2019

LCYCT Shepley Festival Clothing ShopThe whole Shepley Spring Festival was buzzing all weekend, and none more so than the LYCT ‘ebay’ shop.  Selling items donated by a variety of organisations for the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust as part of their fundraising.

LCYCT Shepley Festival Shop

Not only did the charity get a great return on investment, decluttering stores and making a profit.

They also clothed the festival.

A lady even forgot her clothing – she had wine and knickers, but nothing more than the dress she was wearing …. until she shopped and kitted herself out at the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Festival Shop.

The range of clothing was outstanding with prices that made it unquestionable.  Items flew off the benches.  Bag and bags of sharfs, shawls, gloves and hats.  Pajamas, coats, tops and outdoor skiwear … I think they even had jeans and work trousers too.

The festival goers lapped it up and the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust were overwhelmed with the result and I believe they have personally thanked all that assisted them over the weekend and have asked the HD8 Network to extend their thanks to all.

Want to find out more about the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust please visit their listing on our directory for more information.
